Nap Follies Again!

Ugh. D has been getting into some major trouble at nap time for the past couple of weeks.

I'm at a loss. Last week he started peeling paint off the walls! The walls are paint over wallpaper over paint. He's peeled off sections of the painted wallpaper. It started really small, and we were going to sand the little hole and paint over it. But now? He's gouged out two huge sections! We are nixing the painting thing and just going for some paneling. I'm not a big fan of paneling, but it seems like the best option at this point. Now in order to paint and have it look halfway decent we would have to go in there and chip off all the old wallpaper. I've seen how those projects go. It looks like it will come off real easy and then once you reach the point of no return - there are huge sections that just wont come off the wall for anything.

I'm so completely frustrated!!! Why does he have to destroy my walls at naptime??? I chewed him out good last time and what did he do? The next time I had to go in there he had the bed stripped. Then 10 minutes later back to peeling the walls!!!

I'd give up on the nap thing, but he's so whiny and grumpy with no naps. Believe me, I'm thinking about reinstating naps in the crib! And maybe putting some chicken wire over the top of the crib. (OK, that was just a joke...maybe).

Can't he just go in there and go to sleep???? It's so exhausting having to go check and see what sort of new mess he's made every 10 minutes for 3 hours!!!

Any suggestions?

Wow. I have nothing I can suggestion since we haven't gotten to the get up and goof around stage yet. I can only offer good thoughts that he'll grow out of it soon. : (

Ugh, I hate that in-between phase of nap or not to nap. I hear you on the wall paper thing. We have hideous stuff on the wall in our dining room, but I just know if I try to take it off, it's going to turn into a huge ordeal :(

As for the nap time. I would sit in the room until she dozed off. I just sat and read a book or on my computer ignoring her until she fell asleep.

I really don't have great advice either. Pooky was trying to peel off his wallpaper border which is about level with his crib a while back, and I had to pull the crib out 2 feet into the middle of the room so that he couldn't reach it anymore...
My daughter quit napping at 2 1/2 and at that point she started going to bed a bit earlier. She was then sleeping 12 hours at night, so it was tolerable.
Good luck...

I feel for you. Thank God I never had to go through that (knock on wood)! Have you tried Benadryl!!! j/j Hope the paneling works out.

How old is D? My stepfather is a huge proponent of duct tape and velcro. haha It's been his joke since K-Girl was little and 4 years later still on it. But really I would either instate naps in a different location whether it be in your bed or in a crib or on the couch. That or grab a book and sit right outside his door until he gets the point that it's not going to fly anymore. He should move on and forget it if he isn't at it for a while. But really it sounds like a huge pain and I hope that the situation resolves itself without too much problem.

Chicken wire sounds just fine. lol Have you ever seen the Doris Day movie "Please Don't Eat the Daisies"? They kept that kid locked in a cage!
